PT PLN (Persero) which uses a coal phase down approach in carrying out early retirement of coal-based Power Plants (CFPPs)

Kompas.com wrote about PT PLN (Persero) which uses a coal phase down approach in carrying out early retirement of coal-based Power Plants (CFPPs). With this scheme, the CFPP is not operated but is not dismantled. PLN Risk Management Director Suroso Isnandar said that this coal phase down scheme was needed because Indonesia's economic conditions continued to grow, so there was a need for certainty to guarantee the availability of electrical energy when demand soared. as happened in Europe. While energy transition efforts are being made by not activating coal-fired power plants, the geopolitical conditions that are occurring between Russia and Ukraine have disrupted gas supplies from Russia to Europe. As a result, the governments of countries in the European region that depend on Russian gas have resumed operating their CFPPs to meet their countries' energy needs. The structure of the CFPP which has ceased operations using the coal phase down scheme will be dismantled when it reaches actual retirement age.

Katadata.co.id wrote about President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who is expected to take advantage of the 2023 Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRI) which was held in Beijing, China on 17-18 October to realize investment cooperation oriented towards national interests , especially in implementing a clean energy transition. The third BRI forum, which was attended directly by Chinese President Xi Jinping, emphasized three important issues, namely connectivity, green development and the digital economy. In the first half of this year, Indonesia was the largest recipient of BRI investment, namely around US$5.6 billion, followed by Peru at US$2.9 billion, and Saudi Arabia at around US$1.6 billion. In this way, Indonesia's involvement is an important milestone in efforts to accelerate clean energy investment, which currently still requires large funding support.
