Indonesia Energy Transition

CNNIndonesia wrote about the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan opening his voice regarding plans to retire early for coal-fired power plants (CFPPs). He said that currently the government is reviewing the early retirement plan for Suralaya CFPP in Banten. Although, he added, the CFPP’s early retirement program requires quite a lot of money. Luhut admitted that until now Indonesia has not received energy transition funds or Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) for early retirement of CFPPs. In fact, Indonesia is ready to implement various programs to accelerate the energy transition, such as early retirement of CFPPs. Moreover, the energy transition proposal was echoed by the G7 countries.

Kontan.co.id wrote about the distribution of credit for Coal Fired Power Plants (CFPPs) in recent years starting to be reduced in line with the government's target to achieve zero carbon emissions. As a result, this segment is not included in the green category. However, opportunities to include the coal segment in the green credit category have recently opened up. Understandably, the benefits of having a coal power plant cannot be immediately eliminated. Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Financial Services Authority, Mahendra Siregar, said that currently a study is being carried out to expand the financing indicators for coal-fired power plants into the green category. Previously, it was stated that financing for coal-fired power plants could be included in the green category if it was only used for the energy transition. Now, the study has been expanded to look at the role of coal-fired power plants which are used to produce green and sustainable products.

Liputan6.com wrote about PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) conducting a trial of Coal Blending Facility (CBF) technology to strengthen the coal supply chain as primary energy for power plants. In carrying out this breakthrough, Sub Holding collaborated with PT Krakatau Bandar Samudera (KBS). Through the development of CBF, there is certainty of a supply of coal with sufficient calories that can be absorbed by the generator through prior mixing. The trial carried out in Cilegon was immediately sent to Java 7 CFPP. The trial results showed that it took 8 hours to travel, so the coal loading and unloading process to the generator was more efficient. The main benefit of having a CBF close to the generator location is that it will provide security of supply for the CFPP both in terms of quality and quantity.
