Buchholz Relay Alarm Part 3

Please visit Buchholz Relay Part 2 for previous explanation.

Buchholz relay is a protection relay which closes the alarm switch by collecting gas in case it is generated slowly.

In case gas is generated rapidly, it closes the switch alarm device for tripping the transformer from the circuit.

Switch for Light Fault : The gas which is generated during a fault occurring inside the transformer is collected in the relay, and the switch (9) is actuated by means of float (3), linkage, and lever according to a drop in the oil level

Switch for heavy fault : The float (4) is deflected when the velocity of the oil flow from the transformer tank to the conservator due to rapid generation of gas reaches a specified value, and the switch (10) is actuated by means of linkage and lever.

Buchholz Relay Gas Accumulation historical data.
1st Buchholz relay light fault alarm at 12:47 February 18th 2014.
As Fortume's recommendation for set the load steady at 350MW for see how effect to gas production rate but shown that it had no correlation.

Gas Analysis Data.
From gas analysis we can see combustible gas that make the transformer consideration to be shut down.

Caution Gases
Methane >120 ppm

Warning Gases
Hydrogen > 700 ppm
Carbon Dioxide > 4,000 ppm
Carbon Monoxide > 1,400 ppm
Ethane > 150 ppm
TDCG > 4,630 ppm
