Scientist prediction that emission from deforestation reach about 20% from total glass house emission, this number is higher that emission from transportation. While deforestation happen, biomass which inside a tree will be rotten and create CO2 gas.
Indonesia in 1950 has 162million ha forest or 85% from total island but in 2000 reduce to 48% or 95million ha.
In the world prediction that deforestation rate per year is 8.9million ha and in Indonesia has 1.2million ha deforestation rate per year.
More than 1million people in the world life from Forrest and 2million people (33% world population) use biomass for life. Kyoto Protocol is international agreement for industrial country to be reduce glass house emission until 5.2% in period 2008 – 2012.
REDD (reducing emission from deforestation and forest degradation) is mechanism to reduce glass house emission with give a compensation to the people who have try to avoid deforestation and forest degradation.
REDD first time idea rise up in Bali 2007 and the countries who have high deforestation rate was interested and they will get the benefit, but after that Bali action plan considering was not complete and REDD activity should be expand to be REDD plus to collect the fund from Australia, France, Japan, Norway, UK and US to give a packet proposal $3.5trillion for REDD preparation.
Economic of climate change prediction that the fund for cut carbon emission from deforestation until 2030 is #17 million to $33million per year.
The REDD challenge are how to correct calculate the carbon in the forest, how to payment, how to guarantee the forest after payment?
