Lube Oil System.The lube oil system provide oil for all of the turbine and generator bearing as well as being the source of seal oil for the seal oil system.
The main component of the lube oil system consist generally of the main lube oil tank, pump, heat exchanger, filters and strainers, centrifuge or purifier, vapor extractor, various check valves and instrumentation.
Some machines have a main shaft-driven pump to supply oil to the bearing under normal operation. Others machine employ an ac motor driven pump to deliver the lubricating oil to the generator and turbine bearings. In most instances a dc motor driven pump is used for emergency shut down.
Full flow filters and or strainers, or combination of both are employed for removal of debris from the lube oil. Debris removal is important to reduce the possibility of scoring the bearing Babbitt or plugging of the oil lines.
A centrifuge or purifier is used to remove moisture from the oil. Moisture is also contaminant to oil and can cause it to lose its lubricating properties.
